Julio César Corro Lara native from Tlacotalpan Veracruz walked through the lute-making since he was 16 years old. All his stringed-instrument maker’s life long he won several popular art prizes and awards thanks to traditional instruments construction.

His jaranas are characterized by their vibrancy and by the clarity of their tone. Julio César is one of these uncommon stringed-instrument maker who knows how to give a particular fingerprint: a vertical line on the headstock of his instruments enables to identify them.

He created a special technique to decorate his jaranas assembling different woods hues like primavera, chagani, cedar, german pinabete and ebony suceeding in attributing them a special mark, an original vibrancy and an aesthetic quality design.

The Julio César atelier is located riverfront Papaloapan river in the beautiful town of Tlacotalpan. His instruments have not only esthetically fine-looking, they are first-class instruments with wood fragments inlayed details and bone frets. The peculiar vibrancy and “gross” sound are special characteristics of his instruments.

Each jarana, requinto, leona has his own sound and personality. Each instrument is singular, unrepeatable, handmade by one of the most famous artist of traditional son jarocho.

The instruments that create Julio César are obtained and scarved from one solid piece of wood wich is sculpted according to the shape or model you wish to obtain. Once the jarana sculpted the back of the instrument and the fingerboard are made of other woods. The final stage is to polish and varnish the instrument. That’s the reason why each item is unique, exeptional, an real artwork.
